AIR-BORNE "SECRET WEAPONS" SPECIALLY-DESIGNED TAMKS (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, October 8. Certain weapons used by British airborne forces have been released from the secret list. One of Britain's firstclass tanks is a specially-designed airborne " Tetrarch." This weighs less than 10 tons, is very fast, with a crosscountry performance of 25 miles per hour, and is capable of crossing a gap oft wide and climbing a slope of 35deg. It is armed with.a special gun giving a remarkable fire p° wer - Together with " Locust," its American counterpart, the " Tetrarch " proved itself worthy of its famous name. Experts also designed huge glidersknown as the " Hamilcar " and " Horsa "—capable of carrying vehicles of all kinds, 75mm guns, 3Jin mortars, and assault and reconnaissance boats and bridging material. The " Hamilcar " was tailored to fit round the " Tetrarch." At Arnhem the assault boats proved most in-valuable, enabling many of our men to recross the Lek and reach the Second Army lines in safety.
