KESSELRING'S NEW DEFENCE LINE
NORTH BANK OF ADIGE RIVER , ; LONDON, October 8. Kesselring is 'building a new defence line along the north bank of the Adige River, which runs from the Brenner Pass through (Bolzano and Trento, swinging eastward just west of Verona, says Reuter's correspondent at Allied headquarters in Italy. About 40 miles inland from its estuary the Adige (River is buttressed on the north bank by two hill masses which, with the marshy coast line, form a narrow bottleneck guarding the communications centre of Padua. General Alexander's heavy concentrations irt the Adriatic sector are apparently leading Kesselring to believe the Allies may surge north-eastward in an attempt to seal the German escape routes from Italy and Yugoslavia.
