ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
JOCKEYS INJURED. - The condition of the three jockeys injured in falls during the Dunedin Jockey Club's spring meeting at Wingatui on Saturday is reported as satisfactory. A broken wrist was received by L. Barnard, rider of Swordstjck in the Wakari Hurdle Handicap. David Stove, rider of Bowmore in the Kaikorai Handicap, suffered a fractured left collarbone and injuries to the face, while George Barclay, of Invercargill, rider of Benbecula in the same race, received injuries to the back. CHILD FATALLY INJURED. A Wairoa message reports that a young lad named Stephen Wharehera Keefe. aged six, was killed instantly on Friday, when he fell from the step of a school bus. It appears that the lad climbed on the step when the bus was backing in to pick up school children at Raupunga School, and when he fell the tray of the bus struck him on the head. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. STRUCK ROCK IN POOL. Diving into a pool ai Morere Springs yesterday; Mrs E. P. Lucas, married, with three small children, residing at Gisborne, struck her head on a submerged rock and suffered a severe gash on the back of her neck. She became unconscious and 'floated to the surface, where her plight -was. noticed and she was brought to the bank. After ail arduous jjurney Mrs Lucas was brought out to the' main road, where she was placed in an ambulance and removed to the Gisborne Hospital. —Wairoa Press Association. BOXER INJURED IN CAR CRASH. A well-known Auckland boxer, Vivian Gordon, of Otahuhu, w.as seriously injured when the car in which he was travelling overturned on the Main South road . at Te Kauwhata last night. The car was proceeding north, and as it turned a corner a tyre blew out. The vehicle turned over twice, and Gordon received a fractured skull. He was removed to the Waikato Hospital iu a dangerously-ill condition.
