McFarlane, the jockey, were disqualified for six months by the Judicial Committee, following the running of the Ling Memorial Handicap, in which Caithness, owned by Mr Louis, trained by Telford, and ridden by McFarlane, finished third to Alchemy and Foxcatcher. The stipendiary steward, Mr B. N. Sandilands, instituted the judicial'inquiry, and>charged the connections of Caithness under rule 282, with not racing the mare on her merits. After a protracted hearing the stewards announced their decision, which prevented Master Dash, owned in the same interests, from being started in the seventh race, the Hema te Ao Handicap. The disqualified parties have the right of appeal to the Wellington District Committee. The horses affected by the disqualification as long as it remains in force are Caithness, Master Dash, Flying Hawk, Sandy Cape, Note Raid, Battle Chief, Blue Bonny, and Master Robin, all owned by Mr Louis.
