Handicap provided the most exciting unish | in a day of good racing at the Dunedin Jockey Oiub's spring meeting on Saturday. The McLean Stakes, for two-year-old, was won in convincing fashion by the lnvercargili filly Psann, who carried. heavy 'public support. The Dunedin Guineas and J. B. Reid Cup was won narrowly by Air Acei Timber Topper, who fell at the Hunt Ciub meeting on the previous Saturday, romped home an easy winner in the Taieri Steeplechase. The day was rounded off by the win of Alpine in the Clarendon Handicap with the biggest dividend of the meeting. The. attendance was large, and showed an increase on that at the same meeting a year ago. The gate takings were £895 8s 6d, compared with £BO7 3s 6d last year. Betting was spirited, and the totalisator handled £53,i!94, compared with £44,175 10s last year, an increase of £9,118 10s. Timber Topper did not jump well, at the post and rails, but then came on fast and went to the front at the water jump, finishing strongly to win by 25 lengths from Safe Light, who was 15 lengths ahead of Sir Percy. Psalm was five lengths clear of Loyal Lady at the post, and Gold Spur was three lengths back third. Then came Hansel, Montezuma, Princess Anne, and Western Song. In a great tussle John Gay and High Play flashed past the post together three lengths ahead of John o' London, followed by Sister Sal, Lvndal, Aurora Australis, Hearth, and Silver Lily. Time, 1.15.
