ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK
Animal Welfare Week is held throughout the world during the month of October. In Otago the week will be held from October 8 to 15. The objects of the. week are to remind citizens of their duty towards animals and birds. Pamphlets have been distributed to schools throughout Otago, and school teachers have been asked to give special lessons to their pupils during this week. Ministers and superintendents of Sunday schools have also been requested to bring this matter before their congregations, and Sunday school pupils. It is desired to create a love of animals in the minds of all, and to urge anybody witnessing any acts of cruelty or neglect to report immediately to the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which will immediately investigate the matter. While the society employs an inspector, he cannot be everywhere at the one time, and has to depend on information received from those witnessing acts of cruelty, and if this information is given, the matter can then be immediately investigated. In this way, everyone can become an agent of the society. . . Essay competitions are also being held amongst school children, particulars of which have already been advertised, and circulars sent to schools.
