APPALLING MENACE

HOLLAND FACES TERRIBLE DISASTER ENEMY THREAT TO MAIN SEA WALLS (Rec. 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 6. The Prime Minister of Holland (Dr Gerbrandy), speaking in London to-day of the desperate plight of 7,000,000 Dutch men, women, and children trapped in the Rhine'Delta vicinity, said the most dangerous threat of all to these people were known to be the enemy preparations for the demolition of the main sea walls. If these barriers are destroyed the Netherlands will face a disaster which almost surpasses the imagination. Vast tracts of land, including many towns and villages, including parts of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, would disappear under salt water in some parts to a depth of 18ft to 20ft. He also laid stress on the growing shortages of food and other essential supplies ,in Holland, which, he said, was faced with a calamity greater than ever experienced in her entire and difficult history.
