OBITUARY

CAPTAIN R. J. GAMBLE The death occurred recently at Hamilton of Captain IR. J. Gamble, a wellknown andpopular officer on the staff of the Main Ordnance Depot, Trentham. The deceased was born at Otokia and educated at the Wylie's Crossing School. He was the eldest son of Mrs and the late John Gamble, of Mosgiel. He visited Mosgiel recently, and was present at the jubilee celebrations of the Wylie's Crossing School.' As a young man he joined the Boyal New Zealand Artillery and served in France in the last war, being seriously wounded. On the cessation of hostilM ties he was transferred to the New Zealand Army Ordnance* Corps at Trentham. He was highly respected and had a wide circle of friends, both in the services and outside. _ He was a koen Freemason, being initiated in Lodge Otago Kilwinning, installed as master of 'J'rent-ham Lodge in 1937, and was also a member of the Boacd of Benevolence of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. Captain Gamble was buried at St, John's Church, Trcntham, with full military and Masonic honours. The funeral was attended by senior officers representing Army Headquarters, Central Military District, Mobilisation Camp, Trentham. Army School of Instruction, and R.N.Z.A.F., in addition to all officers and many other ranks of the Main Ordnance Depot. _ Captain Gambia is survived by his wife and two sons.
