ANOTHER SPY EXECUTED
BELGIAN SUBJECT AS ENEMY AGENT
<Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. The Home Office announced, that a German Secret Service agent, Joseph Van Hove, a Belgian subject, aged 27, was executed at Pentonvillo Prison this morning. Van Hove was convicted and sentenced to death under the Treachery Act, after a trial before a judge and a jury. An appeal against the sentence was dismissed. _ Van Hove was sent to Britain to get information about the Allied invasion of the Continent, troop movements, and dockyards and shipping activity. In accordance with instructions he " deserted " a German ship in Sweden. He applied for assistance to the British authorities in Sweden in the guise of a Belgian anxious to go to Britain and join the Allies. Van Hove arrived in Britain on February 11 of this year, posing as a refugee anxious to place his services at the disposal of the Allies. His mission was a complete failure. He was put on trial without being able to accomplish anything to prejudice Britain.
