EXECUTIVE MEETING A meeting of the executive of the Duncdai Ciiamuer of Commerce was held yesterday. • Advice was received that the housing conference of various national organisations which' has been, convened by i the Associated Chambers will be held in Wellington on July 17. Mr Stronacri Paterson, president of the Associated Chambers, will be.the chairman. It was noted with satisfaction that the Dunedin resolution regarding. the resumption of private building would, be placed before this conference. ■. A copy of the following letter which had been sent by the Oil Fuel Controller on July 4 to the Associated Chambers was received: —" 1 have your' letter of June 26, in which isfquoted a resolution by the Duhedin Chamber 'of Commerce 'concern-! ing the ,sequifcab!e:,. review of all petrol licenses. It ; is noted that • the' Dunediii Chamber suggests that certain anomalies exist regarding the- distribution of petrol in so far as commercial car owners in northern centres; receive better treatment than similar users m Dunedin., A survey which has recently been carried out upon the petrol allocation to all commercial car owners throughout' the Dominion shows that the allocations made to car ownersin Dunedin compare equitably .with - Ihose made in other centres of the Dominion, ind you may assure the Punedin Chamber of this fact.'' A meeting of the Educational Sub-com-mittee of the Associated Chambers was held in Wellington on Thursday, June 29, to discuss the matter of the Education Conference. The Dunedin recommendations were fully discussed, and were largely approved for submission to the Associated Chambers Executive. - The Director of Education wrote as follows: "I have been directed by the. Minister •if Education' to acknowledge your letter of June 19, in which you ask;for a list of ilia names of delegates from Otago, attend-, ing the forthcoming Education ■ Conference. I am pleased to send the names already to hand,', but, of cdurse, the; list is by no means complete yet,, sis., many organisations have not advised the Minister of th<v names of their delegates., .As ,«oon as the complete list; is in I shall' arrange for you/to have a copy. The. Minister very much appreciates the keenness shown' bv your chamber, and notes with interest 'its desire to hold a preliminary meeting of Otago members on matters to he discussed at the conference." A statement/was received from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, on> the Organisation for -National Development, and will be' handed to Dr R. W. Soiiter for his comments. The matter of surplus Government stocks was discussed in the lierht of letters veoeived from various trade orsanisations, and will be further perused through the Associated Chambers.
