AUSTRALIA'S BUTTER
BRITAIN URGENTLY NEEDS ME Press Association—By Telegraph—Cppyrig-ht (Ree. 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 11. Mr TV. Bankes Amery, leader or the British Food Mission, referring to the possibility of the restoration of the Australian butter ration from six to eight ounces a week, said it would be improper for him to comment on the size of Australia's butter ration, but, lie said, the exports of butter from Australia ta Britain were now considerably smaller than in the first year.of the war. He realised that this was due to decreased production and the necessity to fepd the forces. It had already been announced that 109.000 tons were exported in 1939-40. If by some means only one-half of that quantity could be sent in 1944, Britain's two-ounce ration would be secure. Otherwise the position was full of anxiety, and the ration might depend on Britain's finding a new foreign source of supply.
