SKIPPER FRANCIS
It's just 12 months ago. with winter winds and rains blowing, when the Skipper took his crutches and started to work all the cities and town's of both Islands in the task of trying to cheer those worse than himself, by giving free outings to shut-ins, shut-outs, and shut-ups!!! In addition to engaging fleets of cars, trains, aiid Imses, the best of all was the chartering of the biggest ferry steamer in Auckland for a free harbour cruise to! all cripples and afflicted folk, with the Blind Institute Band playing selections on the trip and Skipper Francis in sole charge of all .arrangements, vhich worked splendidly and the excursion on the good ship Peregrine was a red letter day for Auckland. Skippei Francis continues his great work whenever his health permits, and his Skipperisms are a feature of the ' Free Liince ' weekly. The Skipper Francis Trust Fund is legally constituted, atid operates Sussex House and The Carrie Jacobs-Bond Cottage, Brighton, Dunedin, where contributions are deeply appreciated.—2o/5/44.
