For nine months of the racing year, from Julv 1. 1943, to March 31, 1944. the totalisator turnover amounted to £4,048,340. This easily beats the previous record for the State for any full racing year. The bookmakers' turnover of '£22,773,200 for the nine months is a record since the half per cent, tax on turnover was imposed in 1940.
