SIX-BALL OVERS
REVERSION ADVOCATED (P.A.) CHRISTOHURCH, May .11. A reversion to six-ball overs was recommended to the half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-day by the Canterbury Cricket Association, /on the grounds that the eight-ball over did not save time, was a strain on young players, hindered the development of fast bowlers, and slowed down matches. Figures indicating that more bowls were recorded with six-ball overs in matches under comparable conditions to those with eight-ball overs were presented, and the general opinion favoured the change; but because many of the associations had not given instructions to their delegates the matter was referred to the Management Committee for a report to the annual meeting. The view was expressed that the representative matches next season should follow t.he lines of those this year, extensions beiug made as travelling conditions permitted. It was agreed that estimates of the requirements of sports material for ensuing seasons could be more accurately and properly made by retail and wholesale firms than by the clubs concerned.
