Medicine and the Mayoralty ... I Under to-day's conditions, practising doctors are extremely busy men. Success in their calling depends on their personal skill and personal attention. Can a practising doctor, therefore, in justice to his patients, add to his burdens by seeking public office other than service on the Hospital Board 1 It has been stated that previous Mayors have been busy yet successfully filled the office of Mayor, but the fact that these busy business men have alongside them capable assistants who can share a busy business man's responsibilities has not been mentioned. A doctor cannot share his personal skill with other doctors; it is possessed by him alone. If, therefore, a doctor seeks one public office that makes onerous calls on his time, either his professional work or his public office must suffer, or both. The Mayoralty is VERY Important It must be realised that the Mayor is asked to preside over the largest business undertaking in the province, and, to do this efficiently, he must have the time to secure a grip of every aspect of the job. Donald C. Cameron for J He has the time, the experience, and the personality to uphold the dignity of the office. Inserted by The Dunedin Citizens" Association.
