PROGRESS ON OTHER FRONTS

CONSIDERABLE CASUALTIES INFLICTED ON ENEMY (Rec'lo a.m.) RUGBY, May 10. In Central Burma our troops inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy south of Mogaung and in the neighbourhood of Mawlu, states a communique. - In the Mogaung Valley the Chinese, supported by tanks and artillery, attacked strong Japanese positions, and fighting continues. In North Burma our levies repulsed attacks from the Hertz Valley, inflicting considerable casualties. Our troops continued operations against Japanese posts in the outskirts of Kohima, where the enemy is still in some strength. North of Imphal and north-east of Kanolatongbi onr advance made some headway* in difficult countjy. South of Bishenpore fighting continues for a village which was attacked yesterday. Allied air activity was 'continued throughout the day with the loss of two aircraft. '
