DUNEDIN WINTER SHOW
ATTRACTIVE DISPLAYS ARRANGED The Dunedin Winter Show, which will begin oa June 2, promises to be particularly attractive, with many popular features of the past repeated and a number of novelties of .particular interest to the public. Entries for" the majority of the classes will not close until May 19, but there arealready, indications that the competitive sections will be well supported. A new feature o£ the show will tie the bacon pig classes for prizes offered by the Otago and Southland District Pig Council. Entries for these classes closed, yesterday, and the pigs.will be judged alive at Burnside next week/ -The animals will then"'bo slaughtered, and judged again at the show as Wiltshire sides. The conipetiit.ion is designed to encourage the growing of pigs suitable for export, and should attract interest. The fat stock, sections also are expected to be fairly large, with good entries in all classes.
The non-competitive displays will include a number which are of particular: topical' interest*, The Returned Services' Association is arranging for a-.comprehensive,dis-play ,of souvenirs of the present and previous " wars. The Army Department will display war weapons,-and the Air Training Corps will have a large exhibit dealing with the activities and exploits of the Royal Air Force, including an ' aeroplane. Activities for ' the welfare of. serviceman and others affected by the .war will bo covered by stalls conducted by the Otago Provincial" Patriotic'Council, the Lady Galway Guild, and the Navy League. War. photographs and posters -have' been supplied by the Director of Publicity. Artistic home, activities will be exhibited by the women's instutites, and demonstrations of matmaking and other sinplar work will be given. The Women's Division of the Farmers' Union is arranging a rnodern exhibit of goods produced v on a farm.'. Tim Beekeepers' Association has arranged for a display, of; bees in a ,hive and for explanations' on the habits »of -bees to be" given. '.' ■>''.,.«' ■'■•.., . '.-■.■ An outstanding feature will be ono arranged by the model engineers. Several model railways will be in action and other working models' will be shown. ■ New Zea-land-made pottery of notable craftsmanship will occupy another stall'. Manufacturing exhibits will incude several from new industries recently established.
