DAME ETHEL SMYTH Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright (Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, May 9. The death has occurred of Dame Ethel Smyth, the famous English composer, aged 86. Dame Ethel Smyth was a distinguished figure in the world of music. Among her major works were several symphonies and operas, the best-known of the latter being ' The Wreckers.' She was created a Dame of the British Empire in 1922.
