ALLIED PREPARATIONS IN ITALY ENEMY EXPECTS FULL-SCALE OFFENSIVE (Rec. 10.35 a.m.) RUGBY, May 5. " The Italian front is humming with intense preparations. The German High Command is awaiting a large-scale Allied offensive timed to coincide with the spring offensive on the eastern front, perhaps with a landing on the west coast of Europe," says Vichy radio. Lively Allied artillery fire has begun between the Cassino sector and the coast of Italy. The weight of the gunfire is increasing as the rhythm of enemy preparations for a new general offensive accelerates on all fronts." Paris radio reports that a constant stream of Allied reinforcements is being brought up on the Italian front. To-day's Allied communique from Italy states: Our artillery was in action at several points. Patrol activity continued. There were a number of small engagements.
