U.S. MAKES STEADY INROADS (Rec. 10 a.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 29. The U.S. Navy Secretary (Colonel Frank Knox) said to-day, according to a Washington message, that in February alone a total of 189 Japanese combat and non-combat ships were sunk, probably sunk, or damaged, while " the total number of American submarines lost in this period was amazingly small." He added that since the beginning of the war the Japanese had lost over 3,000,000 tons of shipping.
