ITALIAN WAR LOSSES
SIXTY THOUSAND KILLED MERCHANT NAVY DECIMATED LONDON, February 28. More than 60,000 Italians were killed, 200.000 were reported missing, and 500,000 were taken, prisoner, said the Rome radio, announcing the official figures of war losses of the Italian fighting forces. The Italian navy to July, 1943, had lost 342 warships, and 80 Submarines were sunk in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The greater part of its merchant navy, totalling 3,500,000 tons before the war, was lost. Shipping totalling 120,000 .tons was sunk in April, 1943. while • attempting to supply troops in Tunisia. About 100,000 civilians wore killed and many towns wero completely destroyed. * Sixty per cent, of all the dwellings in Milan were destroyed or made useless.
