EARLIER INTRODUCTION PRESSED
AUSTRALIAN PAY-AS-YOU-EARN TAXATION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, Feb. 29. A plan to introduce the pay-as-you-earn taxation for Australian salary and wage earners as from April 1 instead of July 1, as suggested by the special parliamentary committee, has been put forward by the executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. The executive met the Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, before making its recommendation to the Government. The adoption of a plan entailing the alteration of the income year from July-Juno to April-March will be considered by the Labour Party caucus to-morrow. The original plan was to introduce the pay-as-you-earn taxation on July 1, wiping out nino months of the present year's tax lag. The introduction of the scheme on April 1 would mean the wiping out of a full year's lag. ■
