PICTURE THEATRES

MAYFAIR. The inimitable Will Hay is the main attraction at the Mavfair this week, where 'The Black Sheep of 'Whitehall,' heads a double-featured programnie. The film provokes laughter from beginning to end, and patrons are assured of first-class comedy. Other players in this film include John Mills, Frank Cellier, Barbara Valerie, and Thora Bird. Also showing is ' Ridin' Down the Canyon,' a western film, in which the popular Hoy Rogers is starred, and is ably assisted by George (" Gabby ") Hayes and Rob Nolan. An added attraction is a short film. ' Menace of the Rising Sun.' GRAND. ' Riding Through Nevada,' the latest Columba western, starring the hard-riding cowboy favourite, Charles Starrett, is the main attraction on the new programme at the Grand. The story is a tale of the wild west, with Starrelt portraying «, fearless ipostal inspector, who is sent to Nevada to investigate a series of mail robberies. The quick-shooting star soon learns the identity of the master-mind behind the outlaws, and then sets out to prove it. How this is accomplished provides actionlovers with more than their share of thrills, with the film's exciting highlights including daring jumps from galloping horses to speeding coaches, ambuscades in'mountain' passes, gun 'battles, and rough-and-tumble fist fights. The supporting feature is ' The Lone Prairie.' starring Russell Haydett.
