LAMB KILLINGS
WEIGHT UP—CARCASSES BftWN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 26. " The latest report on operations up to January 15 show that the lamb killings are approximately 714,000 carcasses behind last year's figures to tie same date," says a statement issued by the New' Zealand Meat Producers' Beard. "In weight, however, the average of lambs killed to this date, is 34.101 b per carcass, compared with 33.771 b to the same date last year." " The appeal to farmers by the board to do everything possible to increase the weights of all types of fat stock in order to assist in meeting the requirements of the United Kingdom has been endorsed by al! farmers. Unfortunately the persistent dry weather experienced in most districts has temporarily upset the general effort in this direction, and in places where the feed position Was affected, has resulted in lambs being sent to the freezing works earlier than was intended.
" With the splendid rains which have been general, and provided normal weather is experienced from now on," the statement adds; " the situation should gradually be relieved and result in the killings being more spread and the quality and weight improved."
