FOUR YEARS YET

VICTORY OVER JAPAN WHAT VETERANS THINK ((Rec. 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 26. The slogan of the fighting forces in the Pacific is, " Golden Gate, by 1948," and the veterans know better than many in'Washington what the score is, said Representative Mansfield, broadcasting and predicting the length of the Japanese conflict. " Japan," he added, "realises that Hitler > will be beaten, but does not believe she will be defeated." Representative Mansfield asserted that the United States should assign a larger share of the vastlyincreased war production to the Pacific, because Japanese strength is multiplying. He added that authorities conceded that the Pacific was receiving only 5 per cent, of America's military resources, which was far from enough for an area of such importance.
