PILOT ACQUITTED

VICTORIAN BEACH TRAGEDY (Rec. 11.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE. Jan. 27. A. court martial acquitted a pilot of the R.A.A.F. plane which on December 27 injured two people on the beach. A man's feet were torn off by a cable trailing from the plane. The .cable also severed the legs of a 17-year-old girl. Charged with having flown on' a course and at an altitude resulting in bodily harm to one of the injured persons, the pilot said visibility was poor and he had not seen the beach. The defending officer submitted that if the pilot had taken reasonable precautions he must be acquitted.
