FOUND IN BEER

IMPORTANT VITAMIN RIBOFLAVIN RANKS HIGH IN WAR-TIME DIET LONDON, January 26. Riboilavin. one of the most important vitamins, has recently beon discovered to be present in appreciable quantities in beer. This- was reported by Sir J. Drummond, scientific adviser to the Ministry of Food, and Dr T. Moran, in an article in the weekly journal, ' Nature.' . Ranking it as amoug " unconsidered trifles " iu the British war-time diet, thev sav that the riboflavin contained in beer" seems to! provide part of the explanation of the relative rarity in Britain of olear-cut symptoms of. deficiency conditions. .This is in striking contrast to what is seen in the United States and Canada. A deficiency of riboflavin lays the victim open to infectious diseases, nervous depression, digestive disturbances, and general deterioration. An adequate supply of this vitamin wards off senility and keeps a person in the prime of life for years" longer. Riboflavin is also present in smaller, quantities in-kidney, liver, lean meat, carrots, spinach, and tea.
