ALLIED ACTIVITY (Eec. 10.25 a.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 25. The Allies have begun air operations against the Japanese in the southern tongue of Burma, stretching towards Malay a The advance by the Chinese in the north and by the British m Arakan continues. Chinese troops in the Maudawng Valley approached within 500yds of Tainipa Ga, and advanced slightly south-west of Taihpa. Enemy attacks in the Razadil area, on the Arakan front, were repulsed. Three hills three miles west of Buthidaung were cleared with the bayonet. A large formation of heavy United States bombers made a round trip of more than 200 miles, attacking shipping in South Burma. _ Medium bombers attacked railway installations and rolling stock, and R.A.F. fighters carried out offensive sweeps in Southern Burma.
