LATE INCOME RETURN
FINE OF £lO Failure to' furnish a return of income, for the year ended March 31, 1942, was admitted by George Herbert 'Parkinson, dentist, of Balclutha (Mr C. J. .L. White), 'in the Police Court this morning before Mr J. 11. Bartholomew, S.'M. Mr J. B. Deaker, who appeared for the department, said the department had been fairly reasonable towards the defendant. He had been 'persistently late in furnishing returns, and on several, occasions lie h'ad paid tax on default assessments. . Some 'payments of tax were still outstanding. Mr White said the defendant was in bad health. He was running a oneman business and had no one to do his books. His failure to furnish returns was not wilful, but duo to neglect. The return for 1941-42 had been sent in last week, anjd "the defeA4ant'had "given counsel/an assur-j that-the latest return ', would' be forwarded yesterday. The Magistrate- said there could be no excuse for such neglect. The defendant was convicted and fined £lO and ordered to pay lCs costs and £3 3s aolicitor's fee. "
