INDUSTRIAL MAN POWER APPEALS

Further consideration of appeals against decisions or directions of the acting man power officer (Mr J. H. Flowers) was given by the Industrial Man Power Committee—Messrs M. W. Grantham, H. H. Gillard, and S. D. Macpherson—at its sitting yesterday afternoon.

The appeal heard in the morning in which E. J McDonald objected to the Railway Department transferring him from the position of train examiner to that of lifter in the car and wagon depot was allowed. The appeal, also heard in the morning, by Mis A C. Begg against the decision to make Evelyn Franklin available for service with the Land Army was allowed.

Francis Huia . Tipa, who, had appealed against his direction to employment from Railway Department to a position as a shearer at Waikouaiti, was instructed to take up employment as directed for a period not exceeding two months, and upon completion of -shearing to report to the Railway Department.

Lillian Fahey and Ellen Fa hey appealed against the imposition of fines for absenteeism from the Roslyn Woollen Mills.—Decision was reserved. The Post and Telegraph Department appealed against the decision that John Alfred Clark should be permitted- to terminate his employment with the department.—Decision was reserved The Dominion Manufacturing Company appealed against the decision that Alva Wood,, a machinist, should be made available for service with the Women's Land Service.—The appeal was allowed.

Decision was given in an 'appeal by A. and T. Inglis Ltd. against the direction of Marv MeMeeking. a dressmaker, to the Roslyn Woollen Mills, and the direction of Merle Cross, a saleswoman, to employment at Sargood, Son. and Ewen's clothing factory as a table hand. —ln the case of Miss MeMeeking. the appeal was allowed, the committee recommending that the appellant should be redirected to alternative work, having regard to her skill as a dressmaker. The appeal for Miss Cross was adjourned for three months.
