HOMING PIGEONS
The Dunedin Racing Pigeon Club held the Ruxton Memorial Cup race last week from Hicks Bay. Thirty-two birds from nine lofts were liberated, and a good race resulted, the winning bird flying the 710 miles in 16 hours 17 minutes at a velocity of 1,289 yards per minute. This time established a new record for the distance, the previous fastest time being 16 hours 32 minutes. The following were the results: —L. Tonks's Royalty 1, L. Tonks's Sir Marriott 2. C. Watson's Calton Scottie 3, A. Morris's Pirate 4, J. Scoullar's Opua 5. J. Scoullar's Smoke Screen 6. J. Still's Little Blue 7. J. Scoullar's Blue Hell S, J. Still's Welduii !). J. •Scoullar's Vauxhal! 10. The club will conclude the 1943 old-bird season this week with a race from Opua (Auckland), an air line distance of 815 miles.
