DUNEDIN-ST. KILDA PATRIOTIC FUNDS
QUOTA FILLED At a meeting of the Dunedin-St. Kilda Patriotic Sub-zone Committee, at which the chairman, Mr A. C. Cameron, presided, this morning. Mr I. S. Cantrcll, treasurer, reported that the monev in sight amounted to £SB, ~ 364. This included £269 from the Labour art union and £2<3o which was raised by tramway employees in a popularity contest. The tramway effort, said Mr Cameron, had had a disappointing result, and the whole collection had been a drawn-out business, but the quota of £58,000 would probably be exceeded by some hundreds when all accounts were completed. Captain Roy Herbert, a former member of the committee, who has been representing the National Patriotic Fund Board in a Pacific area, gave an account, of his work overseas. He described the amenities provided by the board for the troops in the recreation centre, clubs, mess, and sleeping quarters. The Board, he said, was doing a first-class job in sending supplies to the islands, and these were quickly distributed to the men, however widely they were scattered.
Congratulations were offered to Mr G. W. Lane on his election to the.position of president of the Manufacturers' Association. The good wishes of the committee were also extended to Mr L. B. Bradstock. who is retiring from the teaching profession. Mr G. W Lane expressed the committee's 'appreciation of the splendid work done by the retiring chairman, Mr A. C. Cameron, and presented him with a small gift. Before the meeting Mr Cameron entertained the committee to morning tea.
