BLOW WITH AXE
MURDER CHARGE SEQUEL (P.A.) WHANGAREI Dec. 10. Alleged to have struck James Wera Muihvai with an axe, Robert Raipana Ogle, aged 16, a half-caste Maori, was charged in the Kaikohe Court to-day with murdering Muriwai at Utakura on October 14. Fourteen witnesses were called by the Crown, and Mr It. Ferner, S.M., was on-the bench. Mr V. R. Meredith conducted the caso for the Crown and Mr H. F. Guy* •appeared for Ogle. The inquest was taken in eonjunction with the court proceedings, the coroner, Mr A. J., Martin, sitting with tho magistrate. Evidence was given by tho parents of the accused, who said that the deceased worked for them .on their farm and that the two youths occupied the 6amo bed. Muriwai was fouhd m bed on the morning of October 14 with severe injuries to his head. A bloodstained axe was found under the mattress. He was removed to hospital where an operation was* performed, but he died the following day. The accused had suffered from epileptio fits from birth. After further evidence had* been heard the accused was committed for ' trial. in the Supreme Court at Auckland.
