WARSHIP LOSSES

BRITAIH'S HEAVY LIST BUT ALL REPLACED Britain lias lost 402 warships since the war started four years ago. This averages about two warships a week, yet the losses have all been rer placed, and in some classes far exceeded by new building. Here is one table of losses in the fiercest sea war in history:— Capital ships 5 Aircraft carriers 7 Cruisers. 2o Armed merchant cruisers ~. 14 Destroyers ... 102 'Submarines 58 Corvettes 20 Trawlers and drifters 171 Total 402 We had 180 destrovers on September 3, 1939. To-day, despite the loss of 102 of them, I estimate that with ex-Ame-rican ships we have more than 3QO destroyers, apart altogether' from well over 200 corvettes, which did not exist when war began.—' Daily Herald's' Xavy correspondent.
