BOWLING TOURNAMENT

DEALING WITH HEAVY ENTRY SECTIONAL PLAY SYSTEM Arrangements to give all competitors at the Dominion bowling tournament in Dunedin next month a game on the best greens available were discussed at a meeting of the Tournament Committee of the New Zealand Bowling Association last night, at which Mr J. Forster was chairman. It was agreed to avoid as far as possible the inconvenience which might be caused by the use of outlying greens. The 544 entries in the singles will be divided into 76 sections, 3S of which will be played on 18 greens on Vfednesday, January 12. and the remainder on 18 greens on Thursday, January 13. The Targe entry for the pairs, numbering 486, will be divided into 70 sections, eight sections being played on four greens on Wednesday, Jaiiuary 12, and 10 sections on five greenson Thursday, January 13, although ;the pairs playing on these days will consist only of players who are in both the singles and pairs. Thus the systeni of play will not affect any entrants for the pairs competition who may jot arrive until the day before the competition is scheduled to begin. The remaining 52 sections will be played on 26 greens on the date scheduled for the pairs, Friday, January 14. Post-sectioi play in both pairs and singles will b 6 held oil Saturday, January 15. _ ■ The fours competition will begin on the date originally fixed, Monday, January 17. This competition will be divided into 17 sections of 12 fours each and three sections of 14, occupying 20 greens. \ By these arrangements the riaximum number of greens in use at jmy one time during the tournament jrill not exceed 26. and with only one! or two minor exceptions all the greeni in use will be in the metropolitan nr?;). and thus easy of, access. The making of the draw' for the tournament isjnow in progress' and should be coflpleted within a few days. j
