Shepherd of the Nations, grant Thy Spirit to the King's Ministers and all chosen from among the people to administer the affairs of this Dominion, and the great Commomvealth of Nations of which we form a part. Grant them with diligence and vision so to govern, that we may pass through these days of strain to victory, and 'heieafler live an ordered and tranquil life. Help us at all times to prove, faithful stewards of our spiritual and temporal heritage. May Thy will be done in this ever-ciianging scene. Amen.

Miss Mabel Howard, M.P., has arrived jn Dunedin, and will address a meeting on the local reorganisation of the Otago Labourers' Union at the Pioneer Women's Club to-morrow night.

A hint of the impending birth of an adult orchestral organisation in Dunedin was given by Mr Alfred Walmsley at the performance of ' The Messiah' in the Town Hall last night when acknowledging the tribute of the Mayor, Mr A. H. Allen, to the services of himself and his wife to the musical life of Dunedin. Mention had been made of tho remarkable achievements of the King Edward Technical College Choir and Orchestra and Mr Walmsley said it was an unfortunate fact that within recent years three orchestral organisations in Dunedin had gone out of existence through lack of public support. It was .a great pity that there was at present no organisation which the college instrumentalists could join after leaving school. Obviously, Mr Walmsley said, the musical director of the college, Mr Frank Callaway, was going to do something about it to provide an opening for the players to continue their musical activities.

An iippeal to the citizens of Dunedin to make the city the cultural centre of the Dominion was made by tho Mayor, Mr A. H. Allen, at the performance of ' Tho Messiah ' in the Town Hall last night when acknowledging the debt of music lovers to Mr Alfred Walmsley. He said the recent departure of Mr Wamlsley and several other musicians from Dunedin was a serious loss, but the city undoubtedly possessed a great deal of talent. With its university Dunedin has great educational facilities, and with the Town Hall and organ for musical activity it had every opportunity to become the leading centre of the Dominion. Cable and Wireless Ltd. announces that owing to bad wireless conditions during the past few days, there is an accumulation of telegrams resulting in mounting delay. As these conditions continue the company has asked the public to assist to break down the delay by temporarily restricting overseas telegrams as much as possible.

Nine applications for authority to transfer properties were granted by the Otago Land Sales Committee at a sitting this morning and two were adjourned so that the parties could make representations in support of proposed transactions. The properties were principally city dwellings and several building sites. Approval was granted for the sale of a Calton Hill property at £1,400 after an up-to-date valuation had been obtained and for another in the same district at £1,050. Several other properties were approved for transfer at less than £I,OOO. The committee adjourned applications for the transfer of a property at Belleknowes at £1,925 and one at Regent Park at £1.300. The committee consisted of Messrs E. J. Anderson (chairman), D. J. Ross, and 11. Walls.

A feature of Dunedin weather during the month of November was the decrease in the rainfall and the a'bseuce of high winds. The mouth was generally mild, and consequently good growth was apparent in gardens. The rainfall was 1.72 in, compared with 2.82 in October and 3.47 in September.
