A. S.mi.thellsl and Father-T. Cleary in preparing standards for schoolboys' events. The meeting decided to adhere to the rule that applications for the recognition of records must reach the secretary of the association within 30 days of the event,. The , application of the Auckland Centre for recognition as a New Zealand record of W. Heron's pole vault ol lift oiin was rejected under this rule. The question of inadequate playing areas and lack of sports equipment for schools was discussed, and it was decided to take up the matter with the appropriate authority. Cases were quoted of an intermediate school in Aucklaud and a technical school in Dunedin, where there were practically no facilities for sport. It was recognised that the Education Department made an effort to lay out grounds, but it was stated that what was needed was permanent sports equipment, the provision of which would probably have to wiat until after the war.
