MASSED BANDS CONCERTS
LARGE CROWD AT GARDENS Nearly 5,0(X) people spent a very pleasant time inthe Botanic Gardens yesterday, when the Oamaru Garrison Baud (conductor, Mr T. Ovens), the Duncdin Ladies' Brass Band (Mr Hilmer Davie), and the Kaikorai Band (Mr H. Osborne) presented a combined effort. Popular items were ' O Come All.Yo Faithful ' by the Oamaru Band, the novelty drummings of the Ladies' Band, and tlie overture ' Summer Dav,' the cornet solo. ' I Don't Want To Set the World On Fire ' by Mr J. Lanham, of the Kaikorai Band, and the number ' Nightingale ' by Bandsman 10. Rassett. The massed bands of over 90 players were impressive in thier playing of ' Lead, Kindly Light,' ' Blaze Away,' and ' luvercarS'H-' At the conceit in His Majesty's Theatre at night a xylophone. solo with band accompaniment was played by Bandsman E. Mae Donnell, of the Kaikorai Band, and others who contributed to the programme were Miss Muriel Caddie and her piano-accordion hand. Miss Gwenda Burt (songs), Mr Johnson Mayfield, Oamaru (songs), members of the'Ladies' Band (musical sketch), and Mr Boy McDougall (songs). The accompanist was Mrs J. Yule. Mr Arthur Macdonald, president of the Kaikorai Band, thanked the Oamaru Band for assisting the local bands, and expressed appreciation to the public for its support. The amount raised for the day was close on £9O.
