CAREERS OF RECIPIENTS
Temporary Major Angus Ross, who has been awarded the Military Cross, is well known in University circles in Dunedin. He graduated master of arts at the University of Otago, and in 1936 was appointed assistant lecturer in the history department at the University. Major Ross joined the Army as a private, and received his commission before going overseas with the ' Third Echelon. He is a member of the" sth Brigade, and held the position of adjutant of the 23rd Battalion. Second-lieutenant R. A. Baker, who has been awarded the'Military Cross, left the Dominion with the First Echelon as a corporal, gaining his commission in the Middle East. He was mentioned in despatches in the campaign in Crete, where he was wounded. Second-lieutenant Baker is prominent in swimming circles in Dunedin, being a member of the St. Kilda Life Saving Club and the Otago Swimming Centre. Lieutenant E. W. Bolwell, who has been awarded the M.8.E., went overseas with the First Echelon, and is a member of the 20th Battalion. He returned to the Dominion with the fur- ; lough draft in July.
