The first local competition held by the recently-formed Angling Club at Kaitangata took place at the week-end. Eighteen members took part, and the heaviest basket was secured by W. J. Barclay (seven fish weighing lllb lOoz), while J. Bethune was second with three fish (91b). The baskets of the other successful anglers ranged from lib soz to 71b 3oz. Another competition • will be held on December 5.

The Milton Bowling Club played a fours match. East v. West, on Saturday, the result being a win for west side by 52 points to 25 points. ■ This week-end the chrb will hold an open pairs tournament, for which 14 pairs from Kaitangata, Balclutha, and Milton have entered. The seventy-fifth annual meeting of Bruce Property Investment and Building Society, held this week, was presided over by Mr G. H. Thomson. Feeling reference was made to the death of the secretary, Mr J. J. Lane, who had held the position for 47 year's, having followed his father, the only other man who had held the position. The report showed that there were at date 264 shareholders, holding 1,645 investing shares and 915 loans shares. During the j year £7OO was subscribed to Liberty! Loans and £I,OOO had been' deposited in the Post, Office Savings Bank. The gross profit for the year was £1,354 Gs Gd, including £7B 4s 2d carried forward from the previous vear. The net profit was £1,022 13s Id, and it was recommended that a 4 per cent, dividend be,paid on share capital, leaving £l6 9s 7d to carry forward. The amount received in subscriptions was £4,767 Iss 9d. and in interest £1.258. 2s sd. Shares withdrawn amounted to £2,443, while loans on mortgage totalled £3.875. The report was adopted. Mr Jas. Gray was elected president, the retiring president remarking that it was something of a record in the history of the society that only three men had held the position in the 75 years— ' Messrs John Hollick. J. A. Dnthie. and himself (Mr G. H. Thomson). Mr G. Melville was elected vice-president; Messrs H. Fit'/simmons. J. W. Pringle. and J S. MoMurtrie was elected to the committee; Mr IT. E. Rnnsome was rejected shareholders' auditor; and Mr G. H. Thomson was appointed secretary. Reference ivns made to the departure of Mr V. MeLeod, who had been a member of committee for 10 vears. and to the ill-health of Mr W. H. Hitchon, which had caused his" resignation after lengthy service.
