MAN POWER APPEAL COMMITTEE
A sitting of the Industrial Man Power Appeal Committee—-Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), H, H. Gillard, and S. D. Maepherson—was held this morning to deal with decisions or directions of the district man power officer (Mr J. H. Flowers) placing workers in industry. The adjourned appeal of the City Dye Works against a direction that Miss M. J. Wallace should accept employment as a probationer nurse at the Seacliff Mental Hospital was dismissed, following the withdrawal of the objection by both parties. Miss Wallace is to terminate her present employment on December 24, and begin her duties at the hospital on January 17, 1944. Ho Tai Chong appealed on medical grounds against the refusal of permission sought by him to terminate his employment with the Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company Ltd. and take up his occupation as a market gardener. —Decision was reserved to enable a further medical examination to be made.
