The construction of tins olock is part of tue Dunedin Hospital Board's comprehensive building programme, ana a start has been maue with the foundations on a site extending from the comer of Hanover and Cumberland streets to tlie .Nurses' Home. The olock, wnich is to include an outpatients' department incorporated with a casualty uepartment;. is to bo of two stories, with provision for a third floor, and it will be 'JOUtt in lengui with a depth of 4511. ihe swimming pool for soldier patients will be /Oft in length and OOft in width. To keep cue water in constant circulation a new method of filtering in the water from the bottom of the pool and draining it off at the sides ot the bath is to be used, and during this process the water will be thoroughly purified. The massage department of the school will be on the ground floor, and in it will be included a waiting hall 25ft by 30ft, a clinic for teaching purposes seating 31 students, a plaster and splints room, a patients' gymnasium 25ft by -]oft, massage cubicles, whirlpool bathrooms, an expert therapy department, and a violet ray department. Tne special pool for crippled children will be on this floor, also a cafeteria for the staff and students. Facilities for the teaching of students are to be provided on the second floor. There will be two lecture rooms —a large one accommodating 70 students and a smaller one. A library, a massage practice room, and another gymnasium 62ft by 41ft will also i be housed on this floor.
Another block adjoining the school is to be erected as an adjunct to the Nurses' Home. There is to be a dining room seating 400, rooms for teaching purposes, and a .social hall. The board also envisages a further addition to .the Nurses' Home itself, providing accommodation for another GO nurses.
