MALTA STRIKE CALLED OFF
(Rec. 1.10 p.m.) RUGBY, 0ct..6. A meeting of the General Workers' Union at Valetta to-day resolved that the present strike of Malta dockyard workers be called off at once_ and that there should be no more strikes while the .'war is on. _ Three conditions governed this decision; first, machinery must be set up for negotiation, conciliation, and arbitration; secondly, existing discrepancies between living conditions of civilian and > defence workers must be removed; thirdly, there must be no victimisation of any striker. The strike, involving some 20,000 workers, began early last month, the workers demanding a higher bonus to meet the increased cast of living.
