'l9l4.—Germans occupied Brussels. 1915.—Italy declared war on Turkey. 1940.—Britain shelled from France. 1941. —Revolt in Yugoslavia against Axis invaders. 1941.—Russians destroyed great Dnieper Dam. Russians drive deep wedge into German positions south of Kharkov. Poltava, 60 miles south-west of Kharkov, now threatened. Allied aircraft hammering toe of Italy day and night. American navy also shelling targets on mainland. Destruction of Wewak airfields completed in second air raid. British and American bombers continue heavy daylight raids on enemy airfields in Franco. Peace demonstrations continue in Italy. Soldiers refuse to fire on demonstrators. Quebec conference expected to decide how to deal with Italy and Germany after their surrender.
