The Astro Romana refinery, the largest in Europe is heavily damaged, and large fires were burning when the last wave of Liberators left .the target. The Giurniu pipe line was hit numerous times, and the Credit Minier refinery, which is the newest in Ploesti. producing large quantities of aviation fueh was completely covered by bombs. The Starra and also the Columbia and, Acquilla refineries received direct hits. The last-named is one of Rumania's largest refineries. One pilot is certain that his plane scored a direct hit'on the Campini refinery. As the result of the bomb aimers' accuracy civilian casualties are believed to have been the minimum.
