OBITUARY
MR G. H. BAEYERTZ
The Sydney ' Bulletin ' ■ (June 25. issue) recorded the death at Sydney, aged 78 years, of Mr C. N. Baeyertz, who founded, owned, and. edited ' The Triad,' a highly critical monthly journal on current literature, music, and art, published for many years in New Zealand and Australia. Mr Baeyertz's chief collaborator in this very' successful journal was the late Frank Morton v a brilliant journalist, who for some timo worked in Dunedin. Mr Baeyertz will bo best remembered locally as adjudicator in both music and elocution at earlier Dunedin and other New Zealand Competitions Society festivals. He was a.rather devastating critic, but a sound one, and there is no doubt that lie did much;,to correct a tendency prevalent at -the. time to slovenly speech. Mr Baeyertz was born in Melbourne. When ' The Triad ' petered out in Sydney he remained there as ateachcr of languages and literary critic, and in later years proved an uncommonly good broadcaster.
