MOSGIEL HOME GUARD "SMOKO"

The second " smoko " of B Company, Taicri Battalion, Home Guard, was held at Mosgiel oil Saturday evening, there being an excellent attendance of local Guardsmen and visitors. The toast of " The King " was proposed by Captain C. Pilling, 0.C., B Company, who also welcomed all present, including visitors, which was acknowledged by the Mayor, of Mosgiel (Mr W. P. Hartstonge), Toasts were as follows: —"Zone lie," proposed by Lieut. E. D. Farrant, and replied to by Major T. J. G. Pugh, zone commander; "Battalion Headquarters," proposed by Capt. C. Pilling, and replied to by Major C. H. Bleach, CO. Taieri Battalion am} Lieut. H. Chapman, adjt.: " O.C. B Company," proposed hy Lieut. H. Chapman, replied to by Capt. C. Pilling; " Sister Companies," Taieri Battalion; proposed by Sccond-lieut. J. Watt, replies by. Capt. A. T. Free (O.C. C Company), Second-lieut. E. J. Mason (O.C. signals, H.Q. Company), Second-lieut. F. Cheyue (Traffic Control); "Friends Overseas," proposed by Sgt. John Sutherland. During the evening, enjoyable items were rendered by the following:—Guardsmen It. L Graham (trombone), G. A. Gibson (songs), N. W. R. Stratton (bagpipes), ,T. Milne "(bastpines), \V. R. Hudson (elocution), X. J. While (cornet), M. McDonald (songs), G. G. Hunter (songs), Sgt. H. T. Wilkins (sleia-ht of hand), and Lieul. E, D. Farrant (violin).

Hot moss was served, and Capt. Pilling thanked the members of the committee.
