KILLED IN ACTION

Private Francis R. G. Brown, who was recently reported killed in action in the Middle East, was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs VV. L. Brown, of Caversham. He enlisted on attaining the age of 21 years, and left for overseas with the 4th Reinforcements. He was educated at the West' Christchurch District High School and the Caversham School. While at the Caversham School he was selected to play in the Otago team in the primary schools' repre-

sentativo game against Southland. Ho was also a promising long-distance runner. On leaving school he became a member of the Caversham Harriers, being an active member at the time of his going overseas. He was a member of Loyal Caversham Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F. He was employed by J. R. Brown Ltd., and was popular with the staff. Being of a genial nature, he had a wide circle of friends.
