ITALIAN PRISONERS

HELPINC TO UNLOAD STORES (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. Only a few hours after being taken prisoner, Italians in Sicily were cheerfully helping to unload stores from Allied landing craft, reports Reuter's correspondent. The first prisoners captured at dawn on Saturday descended from the hill on which they were fighting, and surrendered. A British naval officer commented: "It was the same as at Pantellaria." The enemy troops were violently attacked yesterday during a day marked by intensive activity by our fighterbombers, states an Algiers air communique. Many vehicles were destroyed. Heavy bombers attacked important communications centres at Catania, medium bombers raided aerodromes, and fighters patrolled against the enemy ground forces in the invaded' sectors. Forty-five Axis planes were shot down during the day. Nine of ours arc missing.
