OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND DIVISION The annual meeting of delegates: from all the electorates in the Otago and. Southland division of the National Party was boid on Saturday in Dunedin., Mr W. $. Armitage presided over an .attendance of 50 delegates. , fc , J The Dominion president, Mr A. Gordori, of Hamilton, reviewed' the party's prospects for the forthcoming General Election. Ho dealt with the policy, matters of organisation and publicity, and the place of Independent candidates in the democratic system, Speaking of tho reported formation of. a. Farmers' Party in the north, ho claimed that tho policy of the National Party approached'nearer-tor' the points in tho published, platform of tho Fanners' Uiiion than that of any. other party. Representatives of tho electorates "reported on the position in their districts in respect to the party's "candidates, membership, and finance. The following officc j bearers were elected: Mr Ej , .1. Smith; deputychairman, Mr W.:6. Armitage; Otago and Southland representatives on the Dominion Council—Mrs T. L; Macdonald (Mataura) and Messrs J. Andrew (Central, Otago) and J. Fowler (Awarua). '
The meeting unanimously endorsed the nomination or Mr A. Gordon (Hamilton) for re-election as president of the party, and other for Dominion office were: South Island woman vice-president, Mrs J. Stewart' (Wallace); vice-president from the Otago and Southland division, Mr G. W. Lane. '
